Updates to columbus.pm.org

Columbus.pm.org now uses captchas, (math, images and text), supports openID for an existing or any new accounts.

Also, I have added a moderator role and added a couple of faithful users with that role. If you find that you can edit or delete comments, polls, etc. then you have the role.

New user accounts no longer require admin approval. For some reason, comments weren't accessible earlier. That has been fixed.

YAPC-NA 2007 aftermath

YAPC-NA 2007 is now over.

If you were involved in surgery, could not stop coding to travel to Houston, or have some other good reason for missing YAPC, then you missed out.

However, you may still access the slides and talks. Many of the talks are links within the abstract, so look around.

Avoid - ActiveState 5.8.8 build 819

If you do use activestate, do not use 5.8.8 build 819. It's broken, and you will get a lot of errors with ppm. 817 works nicely.

Perl Certification

Recently gaining Sun's Java programmer certification, I was looking at Perl certification options.

I could not find the test on brainbench.

I realize this conference is not Perl-related, but I know a lot of us carry various hats.

Eclipse, Callisto and EPIC IDE

I use Eclipse a lot with Java, but more recently even for Perl.

There have long been c++/perl plugins for Eclipse, but with Callisto, it has been so easy to get most of them installed out of the box, that I had more time to look at other plugins out there.

One interesting plugin/IDE for Eclipse is
EPIC - Eclipse Perl Integration
